Dainis Medjaniks – Violin
Dainis Medjaniks was born in Ogre, Latvia on July 17, 1993 into a family of musicians. In 2000 he began his first violin lessons with his parents and Galina Aleksandrowna Akulicha at Jurmalas Muzikas Vidusskola. From 2004-2010 Dainis studied with Ludmila Girska at Emila Darzina Music School. From 2011 he began a Bachelor of Music degree at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover under the guidance of Prof. Krzysztof Wegrzyn. Dainis has won many awards and scholarships and performed in Jakarta, Bandung (Indonesia), China, Spain, London (England), Copenhagen (Denmark), Tallinn (Estonia), Riga (Latvia), and Germany.
In 2016 he received a scholarship “Gundlach Musikpreis” and in 2015 Dainis won a violin for two years, which was made by Sebastian Klotz in Mitenwald in 1782 and is a generous loan from the Foundation of Lower Saxony. In the same year he was a Finalist and Laureate at the 54th International Violin Competition “Premio Paganini” in Genova, Italy. In March Dainis gave two concerts in Indonesia with pianist Victoria Audrey Sarasvathi, who is the winner of many international piano competitions and studies now with Professor Roland Krüger at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. In April Dainis won a scholarship from “Live Music Now by Yehudi Menuhin”, which gives him the possibility to play in concerts in the Region of Hanover at many foundations. In the same month Dainis was able to play the “Paganiniana” composed by Nathan Milstein in the program “NDR Junge Künstler Live”, which was broadcasted during the radio program “NDR Kultur” with a classical music star of Viola, Nils Mönkemeyer.
In May 2015 Dainis was appointed concertmaster for the Hochsculorchester Hannover, which is conducted by the world famous conductor, Eiji Oue. In 2014 he performed “Autumn” from the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi as a soloist with Kammerorchester Niedersächsischen Staatorchester Hannover.
November 2013 he was a Semifinalist at the 7th International Louis Spohr Violin Competition for young musician in Weimar, Germany. In the same year, he was “The Most Prominent Student of Violin” at the Spaincellenve-Masterclass 2013 in Avila, Spain. Again in 2013 and 2011, Dainis received a Youth Prize by Lions Club Cloppenburg, Germany.
Dainis received a scholarship every semester from “Förderkreis Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover”. From 2013-2014 he received a scholarship from “Musik braucht Freunde”.
In 2010 he participated in European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) Leverhulme Summer School in Krems an der Donau, Austria.
In the year 2009 Dainis won the Grand Prix Prize and performed as a soloist at the Copenhagen Summer Festival, Copenhagen
In 2008 Dainis won 2nd Prize in the 6th International August Dombrovski Competition in Riga, Latvia. In the same year, he won 3rd Prize in Latvian Music School Competition in Riga, Latvia. 2007 he received a Diploma from Tallinn Competition for young musician. In 2004, he was 2nd Prize at String Instrument Chamber Music Competition, held by Latvian Music School in Riga, Latvia.
